Central Zoo collects over Rs 170 million in revenue

KATHMANDU, July 30: The Central Zoo located in Jawlakhel, Lalitur has collected Rs 170.7 million in revenue in the last fiscal year 2022/23. The collection is still lower than the target of Rs 200 million set by the zoo management. 
As any as 1.86 millo n tourists visited the zoo in the last fiscal year. The revenue collection in the last fiscal year is still higher than by Rs 30 millon compared to the fiscal year of 2021/22, according to Ganesh Koirala, information officer at Central Zoo.
With the fear of Covid-19 now in the past, around three thousand people visit the zoo every day. Due to the increase in the number of viewers, the income has increased this year than in the previous year.
An entrance fee of Rs 750 has been fixed for foreigners, 500 for SAARC countries, 200 for Nepalese and 90 for Nepali students and senior citizens. 
The zoo has been carrying out management work such as paying the staff and feeding the animals from the revenue raised through ticket sales.
There are a total of 1,068 animals of 110 species in the zoo. The main attractions there are tigers, bears, leopards and red panda.
There are 33 mammals, 61 birds, eight amphibians and 17 species of fish among the animals and birds living here.
A total of 15 among 38 wild animals listed as endangered in Nepal have been protected by the zoo.
The then Rana Prime Minister Juddha Shumsher Janga Bahadur Rana established this zoo in 1932 and was opened to the public in 2011. The zoo has been managed by the National Trust for Nature Conservation since 2052.
