Renovation of pinnacle of Swayambhunath temple begins

KATHMANDU, July 04:The renovation of the pinnacle of  Swayambhunath Temple , a UNESCO World Heritage Site, has begun.

After the pinnacle had been damaged by a storm in the Nepali month of Falgun (mid-February to mid-March), the committee, in collaboration with the Swayambhu Management and Conservation General Committee, the Department of Archaeology, and a Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) technical team, conducted a thorough investigation before beginning renovation work.

Every day, a significant number of Buddhist loyal followers come to this temple in Kathmandu-15 to pray. Domestic and international tourists come here to study and examine the heritage site's art and skills. Visitors to this temple can also enjoy a panoramic view of the Kathmandu Valley and the Himalayan mountain range.

According to Monk Bhramamurti Mahasthabir, chairman of the Swayambhu Management and Conservation General Committee, the renovation and restoration works began only after consultation with and permission from the Department of Archeology, as it is an ancient heritage.

According to locals, the storm  caused damage to the pinnacle as it was already weakened by monkeys.

The committee has been taking care after the heritage site and is in charge of its protection and cleaning.

It is stated that after the restoration work is completed, the pinnacle will be reinstalled after a specific religious ceremony of forgiving prayer is performed.

The Pratappur and Shantipur temples near Swayambhunath Temple add to the area's beauty. Both of these temples were previously refurbished.
