KATHMANDU, June 27:The Pokhara metropolitan has stated in its policy and program for the upcoming fiscal year 2023/24 that it will follow the Supreme Court's ruling to dismantle structures that fall below the 65 meter standard of Fewa Lake.

Metropolitan Chief Dhanraj Acharya presented the policy and program for fiscal year 2023/24 in the 13th metropolitan Assembly on Sunday and stated that the appropriate arrangements will be made to implement the Supreme Court order on Fewa Lake protection.

The metropolitan has adopted a policy to safeguard the wetlands and watershed areas of Pokhara's other lakes on the World Ramsar list, including Fewa Lake.

"A special program will be conducted for the protection of water bodies and wetlands of lakes listed on the Ramsar list, including Fewa Lake, Begnas Lake, and Rupa Lake," said Mayor Acharya.

On June 20, the Supreme Court decided to keep the fewa Lake threshold of 65 meters and to demolish the structures that lie within that requirement.

Similarly, the metropolitan  has stated that it will take the initiative to open Pokhara Lakeside 24 hours a day. Metropolitan Chief Acharya further stated that a proper method for manage vehicles and regulating nighttime commerce in the lakeside area will be developed.

Similarly, the city has declared that standards will be established on both sides to safeguard Firkekhola, which is under great strain from encroachment. Mayor Acharya stated that after the Firke standards are determined, footpaths and cycle lanes will be established.
