16th Sagarmatha Day rally organized in Kathmandu
KATHMANDU, May 29:On the occasion of the 16th International Sagarmatha (Mt Everest) Day, the rally has been conducted. Today, a rally was organized from Thamel, the main tourist destination of the capital, to Nepal Tourism Board Bhrikutimandap, organized by various government and private organizations related to tourism.
During the rally, Minister of State for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Sushila Sirpali Thakuri, Secretary of the Ministry Suresh Adhikari, Chief Executive Officer of Nepal Tourism Board Dr. Dhananjay Regmi and others participated. Presidents and representatives of Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA), Trekking Agency Association of Nepal (TAAN), Hotel Association Nepal (HAN), Nepal Association Tours and Travel Agents (NATTA), Thamel Tourism Development Council and other organizations were present in the walk.
International Everest Day is being celebrated in Nepal on the occasion of the first successful ascent of the world's highest snow peak, Everest. The Day is observed every year to celebrate the first successful ascent of the tallest peak of the world by Tenzing Norgay Sherpa and Sir Edmund Hillary on 29 May, 1953.
