Phurwa Sherpa dies while returning from summit of Everest

KATHMANDU, May 18: One person died on the way back from climbing Everest.

Phurwa Sherpa, a Sankhuwasabha native who participated in the campaign, died on his way down to the base camp after climbing the Nepali Army's Mountain Clean-Up Campaign 2023.

The Nepali Army's Military and Public Relations Directorate says efforts are being undertaken to recover Phurwa's body.

Similarly, Captain Dipendrasingh Khatri felt ill on his way back after mountaineering. He was transported to Kathmandu for further treatment with the assistance of other teams involved in the climb.

Along with Captain Khatri, three other persons have been brought to Kathmandu for treatment, and their conditions are all normal, according to the directorate.

Despite the bad weather, the remaining work of the Mountain Clean-Up Campaign  is being carried out under the leadership of Lieutenant Colonel Kishore Adhikari, according to the directorate.
