83 year old Carlos climbing Mt. Dhaulagiri

KATHMANDU, April 26:Carlos Soria, 83, of Spain, has arrived at the base camp for climbing Dhaulagiri, the world's seventh highest peak.

Carlos is making his 13th attempt to climb the 8,167-meter-high Dhaulagiri peak, which is located in Dhaulagiri local municipality-4 Mudi of Myagdi.

Carlos reached the first camp at an altitude of 7,000 meters and returned last year on his 12th try. Carlos, who first attempted to climb Dhaulagiri in 1998, has failed to realize his ambition of reaching the mountain's summit, despite ascending it for the 12th time in two decades. Carlos has reached the base camp again this year to fulfill his dream of climbing Dhaulagiri.

Carlos will climb Dhaulagiri with the help of Seven Summit Treks to create a record for the oldest person to climb all 14 mountains higher than 8000 meters in the world.

Carlos' climbing team has come to a halt at the base camp due to inclement weather. Mingtemba Sherpa leads Carlos' climbing squad. According to Seven Summit manager Thaneshwar Guragain, 25 international climbers have arrived at the base camp on behalf of Seven Summit. He told me that if the weather cooperates, he will climb Dhaulagiri in 20 to 25 days.

"The climbing team, which included 83-year-old mountaineer Carlos Soria from Spain, arrived at the base camp 12 days ago, and now there are reports of heavy snowfall," Guragai of the Seven Summits stated. He expressed confidence that Carlos, 83, will summit Dhaulagiri this year.

Climbers stopped at the Dhaulagiri Himal base camp today owing to severe snowfall, according to Indrasingh Sherchan, a tourist trader from Annapurna Rural Municipality-3 Dana. Sherchan stated that owing to severe snowfall, visitors who came for the Dhaulagiri round trek also returned from the base camp.
