Qatari Princess Thani scales Mt Annapurna I

MYAGDI, April 16:Sheikha Asma Al Thani, a member of Qatar's royal family, has successfully ascended the mountain Annapurna I. At 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, she ascended the 8,091-meter-high Annapurna I. 

Thani scaled Annapurna with the assistance of a team of Sherpas lead by mountaineer Nirmal Purja (Nims), according to David Sherpa, Director of Elite Expedition. "Thani has become the first Qatari woman to climb Annapurna, the world's tenth highest peak," he stated. 

The Annapurna I mountain is located in Myagdi's Annapurna rural municipality-4.Princess Al Thani had already climbed Mount Everest, Dhaulagiri, Kanchanjunga, Lhotse, Manaslu, and K2 in addition to Mount Everest.

Thani, a doctor by trade, arrived in Myagdi on March 6 for the expedition to climb Annapurna I.

The climbing season for the current year began on Saturday morning in Annapurna I.

45 persons have applied for permission to climb Annapurna this year. Mt Annapurna is the world's tenth highest peak. 

In 1950, Maurice Hergoz of France became the first person to summit Annapurna.
