KATHMANDU, March 30:In Shuklaphanta National Park, lesser florican (Kharamjur) have been counted.

For a week, the National Park Office and the Nepal Bird Conservation Association counted the critically endangered  lesser florican.

According to Hirulal Dagoura Tharu, project assistant at Nepal Bird Conservation Association,  lesser florican  were counted in Shuklaphanta National Park from March 22nd to March 28th.

"This is the world's most endangered bird," Dagoura said, adding that the  lesser florican can only be found in Nepal, India, Cambodia, and Vietnam.

He stated that because  lesser florican is being counted nationally, the data will be released later. According to him,  lesser florican can be found in Nepal's Shuklaphanta, Bardia, Chitwan National Park, and Koshitappu Wildlife Reserve.

According to Kishore Mehta, Chief Conservation Officer of Shuklaphanta National Park Office in Kanchanpur, a week-long study was conducted in the park where  lesser florican is found. 'Statistics will be made public only after the association submits a report to our department,' he explained.

Because it breeds from the beginning of summer until the beginning of the dry season, it can be seen in  lesser florican Park's grasslands during this time.

In the park's Shuklaphanta, Haraiya, Lalpani, and Arjuni grasslands, 71 centers were identified and counted.

According to Chief Conservation Officer Mehta, there are eight Kharamjurs in Shuklaphanta based on 2021 calculations. There are 454 bird species in Shuklaphanta, according to the National Park Office.
