Five more species birds found in Resunga

GULMI, Feb 16:Five more species of birds have been found in the Resunga forest area of Gulmi.

Bird conservation association Gulmi conducted a bird study in Resunga and found birds of Tuinsi Suga (Plum-headed Parakeet), Kotero Munia ( Scaly-breasted Munia), Chachale Sudsudiya (Common Sandpiper), Chakhewachakhewi (Ruddy Shelduck) and Tilhari  ( Ibisbill) species. Bharat Panthi, project officer of the association, informed that 29 percent of the 892 species of birds found in Nepal are currently found here.

Along with this, there are 258 species of birds in Resunga. Earlier there were 253 species.  Rare species of vulture such as Eastern Imperial Eagle, White-rumped Vulture, Steppe Eagle, Red-headed Vulture and Egyptian Vulture are found here.  

Releasing the book after studying the bird, Resunga Municipality Chief Khildhwaj Panthi said that Resunga is a historical, religious and tourist spot along with birds. According to him, this area is becoming a habitat for birds.

Although rare birds are found in this area, there is a challenge to preserve them due to climate change, according to the association. Resunga has seven thousand nine hundred three hectares of forest in the forest conservation area.

Along with 258 birds, there are 125 plants, 71 herbs, 25 mammals, 19 butterflies, 19 reptiles, 11 fish and six species of amphibians. Resunga was identified as an Important Bird Area in 2005. The Resunga area, which is 2,350 meters above sea level, is considered a historical, religious and tourist area.
