Passengers can access internet service on domestic flights

KATHMANDU, Feb 09: Internet service can be taken even during domestic flights. But for this, the airline operating companies have to fulfill the conditions set by the Nepal Telecommunications Authority.

With the release of the guidelines for the operation of Inflight Communication (IFC) services by the Authority, the way for airlines to provide Internet services on board has been opened. But such service cannot be operated on flights below 10,000.

Earlier, the government had decided to allow such services to operate. The authority has issued guidelines to implement the decision.

Within Nepalese territory, IFC services are prohibited within 10,000 feet above the ground, while moving on the ground, during take-off or landing. Aircraft registered in Nepal have to follow the rules of the foreign land and sky.

According to the authority, inflight telecommunication services can be provided by both domestic and international companies.

Nepalese airline companies who want to provide IFC service on aircraft registered in Nepal can submit an application stating what kind of service they want to provide.

Information about IFC service provider, agreement between airlines and IFC service provider company, letter of recommendation from the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal(CAAN), and other necessary documents are submitted to Nepal Telecommunication Authority and the airline company will get permission to operate this service.

If a foreign airline company wants to take such a service, it should get a recommendation from the CAAN and apply to the Nepal Telecommunication Authority for permission.
