CNI urges form Tourism Parliamentary Committee

KATHMANDU, Feb 08: The Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI) has held a meeting with Honorable Speaker of the House of Representatives, Devraj Ghimire.

The CNI has requested the Speaker to form a Tourism Parliamentary Committee keeping Nepal's tourism industry as a top priority.

The CNI also drew the attention of the Speaker to the steps to be taken to promote Nepal's tourism, and the steps to be taken to remove it from the security list maintained by the European Union.

Pampha Dhamala, Chairman of CNI Tourism Committee, said that tourism is an important source of earning foreign currency and even though Nepal's tourism has immense potential, the country has not benefited from it relatively.

Emphasizing that the state should be able to gain relatively from the tourism industry, which has been invested in billions of dollars by the public and private sectors, she urged the formation of a parliamentary tourism committee to conduct a serious review, discussion and guidelines at the policy level.

Even though the member of the CNI committee, Chhaya Sharma, has placed the tourism sector under the jurisdiction of the international relations committee in the past, he has given the highest priority to the tourism industry in order to further establish the importance of the tourism industry in the overall economic development, to make the tourism infrastructure scientific and tourism-friendly, and to seriously discuss, consult and direct the policy issues related to tourism. She mentioned that the private sector felt the need to form a Tourism Parliamentary Committee in the Federal Parliament to get the benefits for the state.

The Director General of the CNI, Deepak Raj Joshi, said that all the associations related to the tourism industry are united for the formation of the Tourism Parliamentary Committee.

He said that tourism should be given top priority to make the country prosperous quickly through tourism, which has high potential and a strong future, and for that, a parliamentary committee is also necessary.
