Reconstruction of 38 heritage sites completes at Basantapur

KATHMANDU, Jan 25: The reconstruction of 38 heritage sites in the Hanumandhoka Durbar area, listed among the world heritage sites damaged by the earthquake, has been completed.

According to the Hanumandhoka Palace Supervision Office, 38 of the 75 properties damaged by the earthquake on 12 Baisakh, 2072 have been completed, while the reconstruction of 14 properties is ongoing.

Sandeep Khanal, head of Hanumandhoka Palace Supervision Office, said that the number of properties that have been reconstructed numerically is low, and some construction works are yet to be handed over.

He said that the works are being done with the aim of completing the properties that are currently being reconstructed in the next year and a half. Out of 95 properties in the Durbar area, 75 properties were damaged in the earthquake.

The historic Nau talle durbar on the south side of Hanuman Dhoka and the accompanying Basantapur Tower, Lalitpur Tower, Kirtipur Tower and Bhaktapur Tower have been rebuilt by the Chinese government and are yet to be handed over.

Also Kasthamandap, Nateshwor, Panchamukhi Hanuman, Tarine Devi Temple, Mahadev Temple 1st and 2nd, Lakshminarayan Temple, Kageshwari Temple Nagra Vansagopal, Shwet Bhairav, Silyan Sattal, Gaddhi Baithak, Dhukuti Chowk, Small Temple near Taleju Temple, Talaju Terracotta Toran, Statue of Pratap Malla , the reconstruction of Kanel Chowk has also been completed. The historic Gaddi baithak has been reconstructed with the help of the US government and opened to the public.

Chief Khanal said that other works cannot be started without the completion of the work of the heritage which is currently being reconstructed and in the case of some, the reconstruction work could not be continued because the locals stopped it.
