Kamala Giri elected as TEWAN president

POKHARA, Dec 28: The fifth general meeting and the third session of Tourism Entrepreneurs Women Association Nepal (TEWAN) has elected a new working committee under the chairmanship of Kamala Giri for the upcoming term.

Prabha Subedi is the vice president of the working committee, Anita Khadka Bhattarai is the general secretary, Shobha Adhikari Paudel is the secretary, and Kamala Gurung is the treasurer. The members of the committee are Ishwari Paudel, Shanta Timalsina, Sarita Baral Chhetri, Sharda Lamsal, Sangeeta Adhikari and Pavitra Thapa. Member Ishwari Paudel has also been given the responsibility of the law and publicity coordinator of the committee.

Tikaram Sapkota, the coordinator of the election committee and Tewan's advisor, Renu Thapa Magar, founding president Lucky Karki Chhetri, and others, were the officers of the newly elected working committee.

Inaugurating the General Assembly and Convention earlier, Ramkali Khadka, Manager of Women's Skills Development Organization, stated that recently women are becoming leaders in the field of entrepreneurship and pointed out the need for every woman to be connected with income generation for empowerment.

Head of Nepal Tourism Board Gandaki Province Kashiraj Bhandari said that Pokhara is not only the tourism capital of Nepal but also the best destination in South Asia. Stating that the international airport in Pokhara is in the final stages of operation, he said that it will connect Pokhara with the international market.

Pomnarayan Shrestha, chairman of the Pokhara Tourism Council, mentioned that women tourism professionals in Pokhara are getting organized and moving forward, and expressed confidence that the council will cooperate in every tourism activity.

Renu Thapa Magar, president of Tewan, said that the promotion and development of the tourism sector is a priority of Tewan and said that many tourism professionals have become affiliated with women's organizations.

Tikaram Sapkota, former member of Nepal Tourism Board and Tewan's advisor, Lucky Karki, Founder President of Tewan, Kamala Giri, Vice President, Prabha Subedi, Secretary, Balram Acharya, Secretary General of Pokhara Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Bishnu Bahadur Bhattarai, Pokhara-6 Ward President, Bimala Bhandari, President of Nepal Journalist Federation Kaski, were present at the event. Rasas Gandaki State Chief Vasudev Poudel and others spoke about the tourism promotion, development and potential of Pokhara.
