POKHARA, Dec 17: Pokhara Regional International Airport has become eligible for international flights.

With the positive report of the mechanical test flight "Calibration Flight" conducted at the airport, the airport has become international flyable. Now the final preparations have been made for the operation of the airport.

Jagannath Niraula, spokesman of Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) said, that the report of the mechanical test flight was positive.

He said, 'The report of the calibration flight has arrived, everything is good in the report. The 'information' of the report will be published soon.'

According to spokesperson Niraula, the mechanical test report will be published in the 'Aeronautical Information Publication' (AIT) after approval by CAAN. Based on the report, it is said that the international airline company will get information that the airport is ready for flights in all respects and can fly to Pokhara destination.

Aerothai Company's aircraft successfully conducted a mechanical test flight from November 21 to 27.

A mechanical flight is conducted to test whether the communication equipment installed at the airport is working or not. According to CAAN, air traffic controllers, towers, runways and communication equipment connected to the airport have been tested through mechanical flight.

It is international practice to conduct commercial flights only after successful mechanical tests.

CAAN has already announced that it will operate commercial flights at Pokhara Airport from January 1.

With Pokhara Airport, which is a project of national pride, becoming operational, the number of international airports in the country has reached three.

After 71 years of operation of Tribhuvan International Airport, Gautam Buddha International Airport at Bhairahawa in Rupandehi came into operation as the second international airport in the country. Seven months later, Pokhara Regional International Airport became operational.

Head of Pokhara Regional International Airport Vikram Gautam informed that all preparations are being made for the operation of Pokhara International Airport. At present, the manpower required for the operation of the airport has been managed.

He said that preparations have been made for immigration, customs, medical and security arrangements.

Pokhara Airport, spread over an area of 3,900 ropani, has been built at a cost of nearly 22 billion. The airport has a runway of 2500 meters length and 45 meters width.

The work of cutting the Rithepani hill on the east side of the airport is also going on in full swing before the flight operation.

Under the first phase, 16 meters were cut and a mechanical flight was carried out. The remaining 24 meters are being cut. As there will be an 'approach' to the runway, a 40 meter hill will be cut and leveled.

Buddha Air is making necessary preparations for the first international flight from the newly built Pokhara Regional International Airport. The company has planned to fly from Pokhara to Banaras, Delhi and Dehradun in India.

11 small and big planes can be parked at the airport. There are 48 daily domestic flights and 6 international flights and landing CAAN. The airport has the capacity to serve eight million passengers annually.
