Mountain guide training for women kick off

KATHMANDU, Dec 15: Free mountain guide training has started for 120 women selected from seven provinces.

According to the Nepal Tourism Board, 120 trainees from 25 districts of all seven provinces participated in the training which started in Kathmandu.

Inaugurating the training, Maniraj Lamichhane, director of the board and national program coordinator of the project, said that the training was started in collaboration with AMA with the aim of increasing women's participation in the field of mountaineering. He says that this will create new manpower in the field of mountaineering. He informed that theoretical and practical classes will be conducted to make the training practical.

Rudraprasad Chapagai, Executive Director of Nepal Mountaineering Training Foundation (NMA), said that the training will increase the participation of women in tourism. He said that it is expected to contribute to employment. According to the project, trainees were selected by calling for proposals from all over the country to train only a limited number.

The training was organized by the Sustainable Tourism Project (STLRP), a joint project run in collaboration with the Nepal Tourism Board and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). It is supported by Nepal Mountaineering Training Academy (NMA). The training will last for 35 days.
