Nepali sky safe for flights: Tourism Minister Shrestha

KATHMANDU, Dec 10: Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Minister Jeevan Ram Shrestha said that Nepali skies are safe for air flights.

In a program organized here on Wednesday on the occasion of International Civil Aviation Day, he said that there is no need for international bodies to raise questions about air safety. "The authority is working to improve security," he said.

Mentioning that the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) is working responsibly on air safety issues, Minister Shrestha said that Nepal's air flights have been removed from the ICAO blacklist.

Stating that the government has clarified its air safety policy, he expressed the belief that ICAO will soon be removed from the blacklist based on Nepal's policy and work done by CAAN on air safety.

He said that the leadership of Nepal Airlines Corporation has not been able to develop the capacity. He commented that due to incompetent leadership in NAC in which the government has invested heavily, the people are deprived of services and suffer various hardships.
