Construction of new terminal building at Bharatpur Airport

CHITWAN, Dec 09: A new terminal building is going to be built at Bharatpur Airport.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) is about to construct a new terminal building.

The process has also been started for the expansion of this airport, which has a lot of passengers.

CAAN has invited bids for the terminal building and is in the process of technical evaluation.

According to Nalvikram Thapa, engineer of CAAN, the bids of 6 companies have been submitted.

After the technical evaluation of those proposals, the final decision will be made from the financial proposal.

According to him, the agreement will be reached by the last week of January.

He said that the bid amount is around two billion rupees and the exact amount will be known after the financial proposal. An agreement will be made to be completed within three years.

A state-of-the-art building will be constructed on an area of 7,749 square meters. Along with this will be the tower. The terminal building is going to be built to work even when the runway of the airport is expanded.

There is a plan to expand the runway of the airport by relocating the Nepali Army's Gana and Horse Breeding Center.

Thapa informed that the authority is in discussion with the Nepali Army.

He said, 'The terminal building is going to be built in such a way that it will work even when the runway of the airport is expanded.'

At present, because of the tall buildings in the take-off and landing area of the runway, the aircraft carries only fewer passengers.

With the expansion of the runway, large aircraft will be able to fly and night flights will also be possible.

Bharatpur Metropolitan Corporation has repeatedly discussed within the Metropolitan Corporation to expand this airport.

Metropolitan Chief Renu Dahal said that she is confident that the airport expansion will be done as the authority and the Nepali Army are positive.

The metropolis has also proposed various places for the Nepali Army to arrange alternative places.

Due to the short runway and the surrounding houses, stakeholders have been continuously pressing to expand the runway to prevent accidents.

There are flights from here to Kathmandu, Pokhara and Bhairahawa. At present Buddha Air and Guna Air have been flying around 10 daily. In 2021, the number of commuters from here was 11 lakh 76 thousand.
