Central Zoo to be closed on election day

KATHMANDU, Nov 19: The Central  Zoo at Jawalakhel will be closed on the day of the House of Representatives and State Assembly member elections to be held on November 20.

The zoo management said that the zoo is open for public viewing every day from 10 am to 5 pm, keeping in mind the voting day of the election. Currently, there are 1001 wild animals of 110 different species in the zoo.

A fee of Rs 1,000 has been fixed for foreigners, Rs 500 for people from SAARC countries and Rs 200 for Nepalese. About 11 million visitors come to the zoo annually. There are currently 65 employees for the maintenance and care of wildlife.

Central Zoo, which was established privately in 1989 by the then Rana Prime Minister Juddha Shumsher Jung Bahadur Rana, was opened to the general public only from 2011. The zoo has been managed by the National Nature Conservation Trust since 2052.
