Yak Attack 2022’ competition begins

POKHARA, Nov 15: The 'Yak Attack' 2022 competition has started on the world famous Annapurna trail. Postponed for two years due to the coronavirus, this competition has started again from Bensisahar in Lamjung district, which is the entrance of the circular Annapurna trail.

The 'Yak Attack' cycle race competition has started under the management of UK-based Mountain Biking World Wide and Nepal-based Mount TV Nepal. Coordinator Ajay Pandit Chettri said that the South Asian model reached Ghalegaun on Sunday and returned to Benisehar on Monday.

According to him, this competition will be held for seven days. The participants will reach Manang from Chame on the third day i.e. Tuesday and will reach Thorangphedi on the fourth day. On the fifth day of the competition, they will reach Kagbeni from there and on the sixth day they will reach Muktinath and come back to Kagbeni and on the last day of the competition i.e. the seventh day they will reach Kalapani Mustang from Kagbeni and the competition will end. According to the organizers, the closing program of the competition will be held from Tatopani to Pokhara.

During the competition, they will cross the world's highest mountain Bhanjyang Thorangla (five thousand four hundred and sixteen meters). According to the organizer, 21 contestants from Canada, Australia, UK, Brazil, Netherlands and Belgium participated in the competition, including nine from Nepal. Coordinator Pandit Chhetri said that this competition has been organized to attract participants from all over the world and to promote Nepal and the tourist area and to promote Nepali cyclists towards such competitions.

He said, "The amount of prize to be given to the winner of the competition has not been finalized and we will finalize it only after reaching Manang." Earlier, the 13th edition of this competition was held in 2019. Corey Wallace from Canada, who has won four times before, has also participated in this edition.
