KATHMANDU, Nov 15: A camera to provide weather information will be installed on Pokhara Jomsom air route.

According to the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN), three to five cameras are going to be installed on the Pokhara Jomsom air route.

An agreement was signed between the Civil Aviation Authority and the National Innovation Center on Monday for the installation of cameras.

According to Gyanendra Bhul, information officer of CAAN, National Innovation Center had conducted the test a month ago. He said that now there is an agreement to start the installation of cameras to come into operation.

"Many of the accidents in Nepal happen in the in-route," he said, "that's why we are going to install cameras in the in-route to make the aviation sector safer."

According to the agreement, National Innovation Center will install weather information cameras at Mahidanda, Kutuka and Leyte on the Pokhara Jomsom route. The weather cameras installed at different places of this route should be kept operational from morning to evening.

"After the camera is installed, real-time information of the in-route will be received," he said, "this will help in enhancing air safety."

CAAN plans to expand the service to other busy and geographically complex airports if the weather information provided by the cameras placed on the Pokhara-Jomsom air route is useful for safe flights.

According to him, air flights will be made safer by placing cameras in remote places like Dolpa, Lukla, Simikot.
