Himalaya Airlines prepares to flights Lumbini to Myanmar

KATHMANDU, Nov 09: Himalaya Airlines will operate a chartered flight to Myanmar to bring religious tourists to Lumbini.

A direct flight to Myanmar was discussed from the Gautam Buddha International Airport operating in Bhairahawa.

Vice President of Himalaya Airlines, Vijay Shrestha, said that discussions were held with the Ambassador of Myanmar about direct flights from Bhairahawa.

"There are 4 chartered flights a week from Kushinagar in India to Myanmar", Shrestha said, "Now there is talk of doing some flights from there and some flights from Bhairahawa."

Shrestha said that arrangements can be made to bring tourists from Myanmar to Lumbini and go to Kushinagar on their way back.

"Some flights will be operated by Himalayan Airlines and some can be carried forward by Myanmar Airlines", said Shrestha, "This will help to increase religious tourists."

He said that chartered flights from Bhairahawa can be done initially to study the market.

The Nepal government has been saying that it will help bring Buddhist tourists from Bhairahawa airport.
