Sanu Sherpa and Lal Waiba successful ascent of Mt. Gangchenpo

KATHMANDU, Nov 09: The team of Sanu Sherpa and Lal Bahadur Waiba has successfully climbed Gangchenpo (6,378 meters) for the first time from the Sindhupalchok side.

According to Nepali time, on Monday, November 7th, at 4 pm, a team of Sherpa and Waiba climbed Gangchenpo Himal together, according to Sanjiv Gurung, the coordinator of the team and the president of Mogan.

"Our two mountaineers climbed the mountain safely after opening a new route from the high camp (4700 meters) for about 12 hours," he said.

A team of Nepali climbers including Italy's paraclimbing team's world champion Simone Salvagnin and Everest climbers and international mountain guides Luca Montanari and D'Emilia Alessandro, Della Mura Marco left for the climb on October 29.

World famous Nepali mountain guide Sanu Sherpa, who has climbed 14 8000 meter mountains twice in the world, went to support the climbing team.

Rabindra Aryal, the founder of Garima Voyage Tours and Travel, who planned to open the route and climb the mountain with the aim of developing the local community through sustainable tourism, informed.

The ascent was undertaken with the aim of drawing attention to the project of rural development and sustainable tourism jointly launched by Garima Voyage and New Vision Nepal.

Gurung said that Mountain Guide Association of Nepal (MOGAN) provided all ground handling and climbing technical support for climbing Gangchenpo Himal.

The climbing team traveled by car from Kathmandu to Bhutan via Melamchi. After that, they trekked through Tupi, Danda, Nosyangpati, Panchpokhari, Chyaksal, Langsing Valley to South Westcamp.

The team started climbing from Westcamp (4800 meters) and reached the peak of Gangchenpo Himal at 4 o'clock on Monday.
