Air traffic increases at Lukla airport

KATHMANDU, Nov 06: Tourists coming to see Mount Everest and other snow chains have increased at the very busy Tenzing Hillary Airport Lukla in the tourist area of Solukhumbu.

After the increase in tourists, more than 30 flights are being made by airplanes and helicopters are making around 110 flights daily.

Head of  Civil Aviation Office Nepal Lukla, Dwarika Achami Nepali, informed that the number of returnees has increased when it reaches the middle of the tourist season. According to him, Tara Air, Sita Air and Summit Airlines are flying daily.

He said that around 1000 foreign and local tourists visit Lukla every day by airplane and helicopter. Chief Achhami said that since the start of flights from Ramechhap airport this year, there are more flights because it is convenient. Previously, when flying from Tribhuvan Airport, it was not possible to fly smoothly due to the traffic taking time for take-off and landing.

Tourism professionals say that the tourism of this October season, which started from October, mainly lasts until the end of October. During this season, there are more flights at Lukla airport every year.

Due to the fact that the airlines fly to the tourist airports on the first priority during the season, the number of flights to other airports in the district is low.

Among the four airports in the district, Syangboche Airport and Kangeldanda Airport are closed, while there are sporadic flights at Phaplu Airport. At the beginning of the season, the weather was unfavorable, but lately there is no problem in flying because of the clear weather.
