161 Climbers scaled Mt. Manaslu

KATHMANDU, Nov 01: One hundred and sixty-one climbers have climbed Mt. Manaslu (8,163 meters) in the autumn season of this year .

According to the deparment of tourism 77 foreign and 84 Nepali climbers have reached the peak of Manaslu.

Bigyan Koirala, officer of the department's mountaineering branch, informed that 404 foreigners have taken permission to climb Manaslu this season, and 77 have climbed it.

Along with foreign climbers, Nepalese Sherpa helpers have also reached the peak of Manaslu.

He said that this season's climbing of Manaslu is over and the climbing of other mountains and peak is continuing.

It is said that the number of climbers has reached the peak of Manaslu which is slightly less than the previous year. This time, when the Manaslu climb was about to start, an avalanche occurred above the Manaslu base camp.

One person was killed and some climbers were injured when an avalanche fell on Manaslu mountain on September 26. Mount Manaslu in Chumanubri Rural Municipality of North Gorkha is the eighth highest mountain in the world. Manaslu belongs to the Mansiri mountain range. Manaslu climb is considered attractive for this season.

Manaslu climb is considered suitable for the autumn season as snow accumulates more in the spring season.

In the spring season, more mountains are climbed, including Mount Everest.

According to the details of the mountaineering branch, 79 women and 307 men from 38 climbing groups had taken permission to climb Manaslu in this season alone.

One thousand two hundred and thirty-eight climbers from one hundred and forty-six climbing groups have taken permission to climb Everest (8,848.86 meters), Manaslu and peak for autumn climbing.

Autumn is considered to be the best season for climbing Manaslu and is preferred by most climbers.

As autumn is the suitable season for climbing Manaslu, every year a significant number of climbers come to climb Manaslu, according to the Nepal Mountaineering Association.

On May 9, 1956, Japanese citizen Toshio Imanisi and Nepali Galgen Norbu Sherpa successfully climbed Manaslu. Mingma Sherpa, Managing Director of Seven Summit Treks Pvt. Ltd. said that since this season is considered the best season for climbing, the highest number of climbers come to climb Manaslu every year.
