Tourism Minister's proposal in Cabinet to open import of alcohol

KATHMANDU, Oct 21: Minister of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Jeevanram Shrestha has taken a proposal to the Cabinet to open the importation of banned liquor.

Minister Shrestha informed that in the meeting of the Council of Ministers held on Thursday, there was a discussion about the demand of businessmen and its impact on the main tourist season. In  meeting, there was a discussion about the impact on the tourism sector if the import of alcohol is extended for a long time.

Earlier, hoteliers were demanding to create an environment to open the import of alcohol. Minister Shrestha informed that since it is the main season of tourism, it should be considered.

The government, which has banned the import of four types of goods including liquor since last 26 April, has repeatedly extended this ban till the end of November. .
