POKHARA, Oct 19: Liladhar Paudel, head of District Coordination Committee Kaski, has said that the delay in the operation of the international airport means that the nation has to bear the loss, so the obstructions in the operation should be resolved quickly and put into operation.

Pokhara International Airport, which was announced to be put into operation in the coming month of January, was observed by a team including chief Paudel on Monday. After the inspection, Chief Paudel said that the national pride plan should be taken forward by quick initiatives to solve the problems encountered in the operation of the international airport.

He pointed out that the faster the airport can be put into operation, the more benefits the country and Pokhara can reap, and everyone needs their support.

Airport project chief Vinesh Munkarmi informed that 98.5 percent of the airport's work has been completed. He said that some problems including cutting Rithepani hill and oil corporation depot which are two kilometers away from the airport are still in the process of being solved for the operation of the airport.

Munkarmi added that since the landfill site will be filled with the soil released after cutting the hill, that problem will be solved soon and the metropolis has also assured that the land will be settled and it will be solved soon. DCC Kaski Deputy Head Sarita Maal, District Coordinating Officer Nabaraj Baral along with members and staff of DCC Kaski participated in the monitoring.

Before the construction of the airport was completed, the Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who was visiting Nepal, handed over the key of the airport to the Minister of State Narayan Khadka in the presence of Prime Minister Deuba in March 2078. This airport was built with a concessional loan of 22 billion from the Chinese government.

The airport construction company, which started work on November 1, 2017, had to finish it on July 10, 2021, citing the Corona pandemic, and the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal extended the construction time by 1 year and advanced the rest of the work.
