Chaurjahari Airport not in operation even during the festival

RUKUM West, Oct 14: Chaurjahari Airport in Rukum West, which was expected to be operational during Dashain and Tihar, was not operational this time either. The common people here have suffered because the airport, which has been closed for a long time, has not been put into operation.

Madan Kumar Gautam of Chaurjahari Municipality-2 said that the airport, which has been closed for eight years, was expected to be operational this year on Dashain and Tihar, but it turned into a disappointment.

He informed that when the Ministry of Tourism went to the Ministry of Tourism for the operation of the airport with a team of people's representatives of the then local government, they were assured that it could be put into operation during Dashain and Tihar. However, he says that no process of airport operation has been started.

Local Khim Prasad Jaisi said that the airport was abandoned. During the festive season, the common people who travel dangerously by road transport are deprived of the facility of the plane. "Neither a fast road has been built, nor a plane comes to the airport," Jaisi said, "The state's wealth is being wasted, people are suffering."

This airport, which has been in operation since 2028, has not been in operation since February 2070. An airport was built at Chaurajahari targeting Rukum, Salyan and Jajarkot districts. From February 2070 to August 2072, the runway of the airport was paved at a cost of five crore 59 lakh 49 thousand 952 rupees.

However, after the upgrade of the airport, the number of planes coming here has decreased. Last time this airport was closed. The airport and the tower are not staffed or policed at any place.

On the other hand, in the annual budget of the financial year 2022/23, the government has allocated a budget for upgrading the airport.
