Twenty four hundred tourists stranded in Khumbu and Ramechhap

KATHMANDU, Oct 12: At the beginning of the tourist season, more than 2,400 tourists were stranded in Khumbu and Ramechhap due to unfavorable weather. The weather has again challenged the tourism business that was affected by the coronavirus.

Lakpagyalzen Sherpa of Lukla informed that 400 tourists were stranded in Lukla due to bad weather for four days. Tourists are said to be waiting for the improvement of the weather at Tenzing Hillary Airport and Gorakshep area. Dwarika Lal Achami, in-charge of Nepal Civil Aviation Authority Lukla, said that the flight was stopped due to low visibility. According to him, about two thousand tourists are waiting to come from Ramechhap to Lukla. He informed that temporary accommodation has been arranged in Ramechhap for stranded passengers due to lack of flight.

Most of the foreign tourists are currently accommodated in hotels in Mulkot, Tripal from Ramechhap, said Tara Air's Head of Flight Security and Spokesperson Sudarshan Bertaula.

He said that the company, which has been operating 15 flights daily through two TwinOtter airplanes, has not been able to operate any flights for the past four days. According to Lukla Airport, three helicopters flew between Ramechhap and Lukla until Sunday afternoon. Till the day of Ashtami, there were 30 regular and non-scheduled flights between Ramechhap and Lukla by Tara, Sita and Summit Air. Manoj Karki, Managing Director of Summit Air, said that due to bad weather for three days, the three companies' flights to Fixed Wing could not fly.

Due to the fog, the visibility is very low, so no flight and landing could be done. The visibility around the airport is below 50 meters. Which is considered to be nil in the flight area. At the beginning of the season, the businessmen said that there was a problem when the weather did not cooperate.
