EU stated not mandatory to divide CAAN

KATHMANDU, Oct 12: The European Union has stated that it is not mandatory to divide the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) in order to withdraw from the air safety list.

At the international civil aviation conference held in Canada two weeks ago, the EU suggested emphasizing flight safety rather than the division of CAAN, said Pradeep Adhikari, director general of the authority.

He said that keeping this suggestion in mind, the authority has put forward a plan to advance the work of connecting state-of-the-art technology to various difficult destinations.

Informing that there is correspondence between the authority and the European Union to remove the country from the list of insecurity as soon as possible, he said that due to the policy taken before this, some positive signs have been seen.

'The infrastructure had to be expanded at the airport where the accident occurred after entering the cloud. The European Union has not set this condition that this should be removed from the black list,' he said.

Stating that the EU has warned not to fly in clouds, he said, 'It has been a difficult decade. Even when our skies were safe, we didn't dare to say that. All plane helicopters operating in Nepal are from Europe. We have been using guides, spare parts, and navigation from Europe. Even so, how is our sky on the security list?

He informed that Nepal is the first country to maintain the maximum rate in ICAO's on-site audit. He said that Nepal is the first country in the global and Asia Pacific region to maintain a 70.1 percent safety rate.
